Prof. V. Venkata Ramana born in Hyderabad, holds an M.B.A. and Doctoral degree in Management and received advanced training at IIIEE, Sweden and IC2 Institute, University of Texas. Prior to his present assignment he was the most senior Professor at School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad, where he also served as Dean for more than seven years and has over 35 years of experience spanning across different sectors’ academics, industry and Board level positions at State Bank of Hyderabad, SBH (4 years) and India Infrastructure Finance Company (IIFCL- Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India - 3 years).

Prof. Venkata Ramana began his career as a Research Assistant at Institute of Public Enterprise and later worked as Senior Executive at Mahindra Nissan Alwyn Ltd and as a faculty member at Osmania University before joining the University of Hyderabad in 1999.

He has extensively worked in the area of innovation, incubation and Entrepreneurship and was the founder of the TBI (Technology Business Incubator @ University of Hyderabad) and was Executive Council Member and held many administrative positions in the University of Hyderabad. His research interests include General Management, Corporate Governance & Strategy, Marketing and Strategic Management. He also served as Visiting Professor at San Diego State University, University of New Orleans, USA, Mahasarakham University, Thailand and Poznan University of Economics and Business, Poland and delivered many lectures in leading Universities in India and abroad.

Prof. Venkata Ramana received many Honours and prestigious Awards – Vemuri Seshayya Sastry Gold Medal for Best Thesis in Economics, Commerce and Management in 1986, AICTE Career Award for Young Teachers in 1999 and “Best Professor in Marketing” in Singapore by CMO Council, Asia, Singapore in 2012 to name a few. In addition, he is on various committees of UGC/AICTE/University Court/Board of Studies.

Prof. Venkata Ramana had the distinction of being chosen to accompany the Hon’ble President of India on an official visit to China during May 24 - 25’ 2016 and was also invited as “Observer” for the launch of Smart model villages at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 2’ 2016. He was appointed as “National Expert” by Asian Productivity Organisation, Japan (2017-19). He has authored 10 books and published over 40 Scholarly articles in National and International journals and is a popular speaker at various National and International Conferences.

In August, 2017 in recognition of his contributions to the field of Higher Education in general and Management Education in particular, he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of TGCHE by Government of Telangana and is spearheading the innovation, incubation & entrepreneurship activities at Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) in addition to policy and perspective planning activities. Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was invited to speak at the International Conference on “Convergence - Content, Media and Technology” held at Thailand between 21st – 23rd November, 2018 and also invited to participate in the World Academic Summit organised by Times Higher Education held at National University of Singapore from 25th-27thSeptember, 2019.

In September, 2019, Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was selected by MHRD, Government of India to participate in the Leadership for Academicians Program (LEAP) organised by the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) Graduate School of Education, Philadelphia, PA, United States. He was also invited by Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA and other leading Universities to discuss possibilities of collaboration with the Higher Education system in Telangana State and internationalisation of Higher Education.

In February, 2020 Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was invited by ITES, the National University of Singapore & Nanyang Technological University to explore possibilities of academic cooperations between Telangana Universities and Singapore Universities.

In November 2020, Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was appointed as a Member of the Committee by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

In addition to the current responsibilities, the Government of Telangana has appointed Prof. V. Venkata Ramana as ViceChancellor (I/c) of Rajiv Gandhi University Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basar, Telangana, w.e.f. July 16, 2022, which has around 8500 students from districts of Telangana who pursue a six-year integrated programme in engineering.

In April 2023, Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was invited to attend the Digital Universities—US Conference being organised by Times Higher Education at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA.

Prof. V. Venkata Ramana was recently awarded the CII Harithaharam Award and also the COP 28 UAE Green University Award 2023 in December 2023 in Dubai for RGUKT's exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to cultivating green education spaces and advancing sustainable teaching and learning practices at RGUKT, Basar.

In October 2024 on completion of the assignment with Govt. of Telangana he has joined University of Hyderabad (Central University) after working with TGCHE for more than 7 years (above 2 terms) and also as Vice-Chancellor (I/c) of RGUKT, Basar for 26 months.

Prof V Venkata Ramana, Professor, School of Management Studies at University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been appointed as Director (i/c) of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) at the University of Hyderabad.
