Institute for Academic Excellence(IAE)
The Institute for Academic Excellence (IAE) will hold its sixth national-level workshop on NIRF India Rankings on December 20 and 21, 2024. Since 2019, IAE has been regularly educating higher education institutions about the NIRF India Rankings through workshops and awareness programs. So far, more than 1000 higher educational institutions from all over India have attended our workshop and gotten valuable input on data submissions to the Data Capturing System (DCS) of NIRF. The workshops were very successful.
Prominent institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, AIIMS, NALSAR, state and central universities, and well-known colleges and institutions of engineering, medical, dental, management, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals are participating in the workshops and improving their performance.
The perspectives of Institutional Rankings
In today’s competitive academic environment, institutional rankings have become a critical benchmark for assessing the quality, reputation, and overall performance of educational institutions. However, understanding these rankings requires more than just looking at numbers.
The right perspective of institutional rankings involves recognizing the diverse criteria used, understanding their impact on institutional strategy, and leveraging them to drive continuous improvement. Our approach empowers institutions to not only strive for higher rankings but to align their growth with core educational values and long-term goals, ensuring that rankings serve as a tool for meaningful progress rather than just a target to achieve.
Institutional rankings are now a vital standard for evaluating the caliber, standing, and general effectiveness of educational institutions in the cutthroat academic landscape of today. However, analyzing these rankings calls for more than a cursory glance at the data.
Recognizing the many criteria that are employed, comprehending how they affect institutional strategy, and using them to spur ongoing progress are all essential components of a proper institutional rankings viewpoint. Our strategy gives institutions the ability to grow in accordance with fundamental educational ideals as well as to aim for higher ranking.
It also empowers institutions to not just aim for higher rankings but also to match their growth with fundamental educational ideals and long-term objectives.
National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015.This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
The participation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in these rankings has grown from 3,565 in 2016 to 10,845 in 2024, with the number of categories and subject domains expanding from four in 2016 to sixteen in 2024.
NIRF has the process of consolidation, improvement, and expansion based on the NIRF parameters. This process has successfully identified and implemented effective benchmarks to assess the performance of Indian academic institutions. The India Rankings follow the culture of collection, compilation, and curation of data required for rankings of institutions and are sourced from applicant institutions and third-party sources, Scopus (Elsevier Science), Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) for data on publications, citations, and highly cited papers, Derwent Innovation for patent data, and take help from INFLIBNET to detect the aberrations, contradictions, and inconsistencies in the data submitted by participating higher educational institutions.
By offering a standardized assessment, NIRF provides institutions with a clear understanding of their strengths and areas for improvement, helping them to enhance their educational quality and competitiveness.
The ninth consecutive edition of the India Rankings for higher education institutions under Overall, Colleges, Universities, Research Institutions, and Innovation categories; subject domains of Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Medical, Architecture & Planning, Dental, and Agriculture & Allied Sectors; with 3 more categories: open universities, state public universities, and skill universities for institutional rankings.
The Workshop:
Perspectives of NIRF India Rankings is an awareness program designed to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on the significance of NIRF rankings, methodologies, and their impact on the higher education sector. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how rankings influence institutional strategy, student recruitment, and global reputation. Through expert panels, interactive sessions, and case studies, the event aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of institutional rankings effectively.
An essential step in the NIRF ranking process is interpreting the data format used in the Data Capturing System (DCS), Addressing DCS Challenges and Changing Methodologies, submitting institution data about faculty, students, placements, infrastructure, spending on labs, libraries, equipment, and operations, among other things.
Join us in this collaborative effort to enhance the quality and competitiveness of Higher Educational institutions.
Any institution aiming to improve its national and global standing, attract best students and top faculty, and secure more funding opportunities. Rankings serve as a key benchmark for assessing an institution's quality in areas like research output, teaching standards, and national outlook.
Participating in the national workshop institutions not only gain insights into their strengths and weaknesses but also identify opportunities for growth and strategic enhancement towards Maintaining Data Accuracy and Consistency, Time Constraints of HEI’s to help meet the submission deadlines with a strategic plan through Pre-DCS, DCS-month & Post-DCS activities.
Moreover, it helps build a reputation of transparency, accountability, and excellence in the competitive educational landscape.
