Prof. Sriram Venkatesh is a distinguished academic leader currently serving as the Secretary of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education. With a vast career in both academia and administration, Prof. Venkatesh has made significant contributions to the growth and transformation of higher education in Telangana. He is also a Senior Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Osmania University, Hyderabad, where he has served in various administrative and academic capacities over the years.
Prof. Venkatesh holds the position of Nodal Officer for RUSA 2.0 at Osmania University, a project funded by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, since 2018. He is the Founder Director of the Centre for Product Design, Development, and Additive Manufacturing (CPDDAM), a Centre of Excellence at Osmania University established under RUSA 2.0, which focuses on cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing. In his leadership roles, he has been deeply involved in institutional development, facilitating improvements in quality, innovation, and research across Osmania University.
His academic career includes a range of influential roles. Prof. Venkatesh served as Principal of the University College of Engineering (Autonomous), Osmania University, and held positions such as Convener of TS ECET-2023 and Head of the Department of Mining Engineering. He has also held the position of Controller of Examinations at Osmania University from 2018 to 2021, during which he successfully conducted the university's convocations in 2019 and 2021. His other key roles include Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Director of University Foreign Relations Office (UFRO), and Director of the University Guest House.
Prof. Venkatesh has been instrumental in the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) under the Government of India and the World Bank, where he coordinated the program's second and third phases. He also served as the Director of Evaluation at the Examination Cell of the University College of Engineering, where he played a pivotal role in the academic evaluation processes.
With over 29 years of experience in teaching and research, 2 years in industry, and 21 years in administration, Prof. Venkatesh's expertise spans a wide range of academic disciplines. His research interests include Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Computer-Aided Design and Analysis, and Bulk Solids Handling. He has authored 135 publications in renowned national and international journals and conferences, and has guided 13 Ph.D. scholars to completion, with 8 more currently progressing. His contributions to academia have also included the authorship of two textbooks.
Prof. Venkatesh’s research work has been supported by several funded projects, and his consultancy work has generated substantial revenue for the institution. He has delivered 92 guest/expert lectures, 20 keynote addresses, and 28 webinars, sharing his knowledge with a wider academic and professional audience.
Throughout his career, Prof. Venkatesh has received numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the Sir Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Award by the Government of Telangana (2021), the State-Level Best Teacher Award (2019), and the Engineer of the Year Award (2016). In recognition of his contributions to teaching and research, he was also honored with the Career Award for Young Teachers by AICTE in 2002 and was named a Distinguished Alumnus by KITS Warangal in 2016.
Prof. Venkatesh has been actively involved in several national and state-level committees, serving as an NAAC Assessor, UGC Autonomy Member, and Task Force Member for the Telangana State Pollution Control Board. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), ISSE, and holds membership in several other professional societies, including the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and the Indian Society of Mechanical Engineers (ISME).
An accomplished academician with global exposure, Prof. Venkatesh has visited countries such as Australia, the USA, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Austria, France, UAE, Kenya, Israel, and Wales (UK) for academic engagements and research collaborations.
Prof. Venkatesh hails from Ravirala Village, Nellikuduru Mandal, Mahabubabad District in Telangana and has dedicated over 14 years of service as a professor and senior professor at Osmania University. He continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of engineers and academics through his leadership, research, and teaching.
