Prof. Appa Rao Podile

former Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad.

Professor Appa Rao Podile is a renowned scientist, academician and administrator.  Prof. Podile has over 34 years of teaching and research experience. He served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and is currently a Senior Professor. University of Hyderabad received Institution of Eminence Status during his tenure as Vice Chancellor. 


Professor Podile is an elected Fellow of all major science academies of India, including Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi, National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad, Association of Microbiologists of India, New Delhi, and founding Fellow of Telangana Academy of Sciences, Hyderabad. Professor Podile served as President of the Association of Microbiologists of India.


A recipient of the prestigious J.C. Bose Fellowship from DST, the Tata Innovation Fellowship from DBT, and the K.C. Mehta Memorial Award in Crop Protection from the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.  Professor Podile was a Fulbright Fellow in the Academic Leadership Seminar at Cornell.  He also served as the Chairman of the Southern Regional Centre of AICTE.


Prof. Podile is the Chairman of PURSE committee and co-Chair of FIST (Life Sciences) of the DST, Govt of India.  Indian Science Congress Association has conferred the Millennium Plaque of Honour, and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad, U.P. conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science on Prof Podile.  


A committed teacher, Prof Podile has guided 27 students towards their PhDs, besides 4 M.Phils. Prof Podile has a formidable publication and citation record, with about 120 papers in high-impact journals and about 25 book chapters with over 5200 citations with an H-index of 41.
